7.3L chip install

please follow the following instructions carefully!

damage to the PCM and CHIP can occur if not installed properly

                                                  

FIRST STEP -REMOVE KEYS FROM IGNITION AND DISCONNECT BATTERY GROUNDS

PCM CONNECTOR REMOVAL

 

REMOVE PCM HARNESS CONNECTOR USING A 10MM SOCKET AND RATCHET

PLACE IT OFF TO THE SIDE​

OLD BODY SYTLE (OBS 94-97) HAS A PLASTIC RETAINER AROUND THE PCM CONNECTOR THAT NEEDS TO BE REMOVED BY REMOVING THE  NUTS ABOVE AND BELOW THE CONNECTOR    N/A TO 99-03 SUPERDUTY BODY STYLE

OBS FENDER  SPLASH SHIELD

 

REMOVE THE 5.5MM-7/32" SCREWS AROUND THE PLASTIC FENDER SHIELD FROM THE 12 O'CLOCK POSITION ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM REAR


PULL THE SPLASH SHIELD DOWN WHILE REMOVING THE PCM

99-03 PCM REMOVAL

 

REMOVE 10mm NUT FROM LOWER METAL BRACKET AND 10mm BOLT ABOVE THE BRACKET POINTING TOWARD THE LH SIDE OF THE TRUCK

PULL THE WHOLE BRACKET AND PCM TOGETHER

HEX CODE

 

HEX CODE AND DPC CODE ON THE LABEL NEEDED TO DETERMINE WHAT PROGRAMS YOU WILL NEED PROGRAMMED ON THE CHIP

for example this pcm is a TEE5 with DPC-202 out of a 95 f250 with auto trans

COVER BOLTS

 

REMOVE THE 6 COVER BOLTS WITH A 5.5mm OR 7/32" SOCKET AND SPLIT THE CASE

J3 PORT CLEANING

 

REMOVE GREASE AND FACTORY URETHANE COATING FROM J3 PORT USING A TOWEL SATURATED SOLVENT SUCH AS brake parts cleaner, acetone, rubbing alcohol, pcb cleaner

SANDING J3 PORT TERMINALS

 

THIS IS THE MOST CRUCIAL PART OF THE INSTALLATION!!!

SAND THE FACTORY SOLDER ON THE TERMINALS WITH A PIECE IF SCOTCH BRITE OR LIGHT GRIT SAND PAPER DOWN TO A GOLD COLOR AND BE CAREFUL NOT TO SAND PAST THE GOLD DAMAGING THE PCM

BE SURE TO CLEAN BOTH SIDES OF THE PCM BOARD!!!!!

WIPE THE CONNECTOR AGAIN WITH A TOWEL SOAKED IN SOLVENT TO ASSURE THAT ALL DEBRIS AND GREASE HAS BEEN REMOVED

REINSTALL COVERS TO PCM WITH THE 6 BOLTS

CHIP PLACEMENT

 

PLACE THE CHIP FIRMLY ONTO THE J3 PORT ASSURING ALL PINS ARE CONNECTED EVENLY

OBS TRUCKS CAN HAVE THE CHIP INSTALLED AFTER INSTALLING THE PCM

SHOWN IN THE FOLLOWING PICTURE

OBS E-BRAKE REMOVAL

 

REMOVE THE 3 13mm NUTS HOLDING THE E-BRAKE ASSM. TO THE TRUCK AND SET ASIDE WITH THE CABLE STILL ATTACHED BE CAREFUL NOT TO DAMAGE THE INDICATOR WIRING

CHIP CAN BE INSTALLED THRU THIS AREA.

MULTI POSITION CHIP CABLE CAN BE PLACED BETWEEN THE 2 UPPER E-BRAKE STUDS WHEN INSTALLING E-BRAKE ASSM.

THIS AREA HAS A SMALL RELIEF IN IT THAT WILL ALLOW WIRES TO BE INSTALLED WITHOUT BEING CRIMPED 

99-03 chip install

 

PLACE THE CHIP INTO THE PCM AND SLIDE THE PCM BACK INTO BRACET TUCKING WIRES OUT AND AROUND THE SIDE OF THE PLASTIC COVER

SWITCH INSTALL

 

CUT SWITCH TO DESIRED LENGTH FOR DISTANCE YOU WANT THE KNOB TO STICK OUT OF THE DASH, REMOVE THE ALIGNMENT TAB WITH A PAIR OF DIAGONAL CUTTERS SIMILAR TO THE PICTURE,

CHOOSE CAREFULLY WHERE YOU WANT THE SWITCH MOUNTED BEFORE YOU DRILL THE HOLE

2 position switches use a 1/4" drill bit

3-8 position switches use a 5/16" drill bit
